Welcome
to the 2010-2011 Season of Literary Masters! Grab your reading glasses
and crawl into your comfy chair--we have a whole lot of pages to turn,
and what wonderful pages they are! This season we are 'digging deep'
into prize winning literature that is guaranteed to make you think, make you feel, and possibly, just possibly, make you act.
You will enjoy these books, whether your everyday reading consists of researching credit (in terms of sites like http://mozo.com.au/credit-cards) or sinking deeply into the classics of Austen and Forster.
Drum roll please!
This season we will be reading and discussing the following:*
Adult Book Group I:
September: The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver--winner of the 2010 Orange Prize for fiction.
October: The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde--a classic and a
must-read. Our discussion will be nothing like your high school English
class!
November: Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann--winner of the 2009 National Book Award.
December: Nothing to Envy by Barbara Demick--a non-fiction book
that really does read like a novel! Winner of the 2010 Samuel Johnson
Prize.
January: Family Album by Penelope Lively--the latest from this
English author who has won the Man Booker and Whitbread awards, among
others.
February: To Be Announced!
March: A Long Long Time Ago and Essentially True by Brigid Pasulka--winner of 2010 Hemingway Foundation/PEN Award.
May: The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David
Mitchell--ahem... I chose this book before it was selected for the Man Booker long list...will it make the cut for the short list? Will it win the big prize?
Adult Book Group II:
"All Jane Austen, all the time. It's the perfect antidote...to life!"--so said Bernadette in the film The Jane Austen Book Club, and we couldn't agree with her more. So we are pleased to announce that the Jane Austen Literary Salon is back by popular demand! Whether you
are a Janeite or a newbie, you will love 'digging deep' into these
literary treasures.
October: Northanger Abbey November: Sense and Sensibility December: Pride and Prejudice February: Mansfield Park March: Emma April: Persuasion
Mother/ Daughter Book Groups:

*I am reserving the right to change
any title (I am constantly finding fabulous books--it's hard work, what I
do!)
